Ilmari Tapiovaara, Pair of Vintage ‘Domus’ Armchairs, 1946, Manufacturer: De Coene

Set of two Domus armchairs designed by Ilmari Tapiovaara and manufactured by De Coene for Knoll International. This rare version is distinguished by its square brass fittings, replacing the more commonly seen connecting screws at the back.
Originally designed for the Domus Academica in Helsinki in 1946, the Domus chairs marked the beginning of Tapiovaara’s international career. The chairs feature a solid, fully functional construction and are well suited for everyday use. The seats have been reupholstered in LIA fabric by Dominique Kieffer for Rubelli.
